Gramps 94th WOOT WOOT!

So my gramps turned 94 on June 11th.  my sister-in-law Brisa cleans his apartment (yes he still lives by himself, impressive right?) and asked him what he wanted to do for his birthday.  In classic Gramps fashion he responded with this answer, "You can just drop me off at the cemetery." Brisa told him that maybe instead we will have a BBQ in his honor.  So to celebrate Gramps 94th we had a family BBQ. Instead of cake we made his favorite dessert... PIE. My mom and i had a competition on who could make a better key lime pie. We both made two pies and in the end the people spoke and decided that if they could make a hybrid of our pies we would of had the perfect key lime pie.  So in the end neither lost and neither won i just think people didn't want to hurt my moms feelings.

Back to Gramps, He received two gifts that night, one from the us as in the Elmers and one from my cousin Amy's family. Amy's daughter Lily is a gifted little artist and watercolored a picture of these birds that are on this christmas card that he always comments about to anyone who will sit long enough to listen.  He was very inthralled by the painting for about 5 minutes trying to figure out who Lily was and then who Amy was. After everyone trying to explain to him who they were in loud voices because gramps is super hard of hearing he tried to give the painting away.  He has been trying to get rid of a lot of his stuff.  I believe i have inherited a wooden chair and a bunch of McDonald coffee cups.  His second gift was a Costco bundle of apple sauces which is one of his favorite things to eat in the whole wide world. He definantly wasn't trying to give those away.
In Ruby news we gave her a bath for the first time since we have been home and she surprisingly loved it. I love the way babies smell. Also Ruby's hair has begun to get lighter and lighter and it even has a little strawberry blonde tint to it. I would love if Ruby had a little red tint to her hair. I'm probably just being dillusional.

RUBY BOOBY!

   Well after 41 weeks of nausea, vomiting,  horrible acid reflux, constant midnight trips to the bathroom, and people snickering as I waddle past.  Our baby girl Ruby Mae Ellgen decided she was finally ready to grace us with her presence. Born at 7:07 pm Monday June 20th 2011. She weighed 7 pounds 9 ounces and was 20 inches long.
    My labor went really well.  I was suppose to be induced Monday night but my water broke around 1:15 Monday morning.  Bryce and I went to the hospital and around 9 am the nurse started me on
pitocin. After that my contractions were about a 1.5 minutes apart and hurting pretty badly that by the time i was 3 cm dilated i opted for the epidural and boy was i glad i did.  No pain! i was able to take a nap and enjoy everything going on around me. I even watched the food network channel.  At 3:30 pm my Dr. checked me and i was dilated to a 6.  My nurse told me that it takes about an hour to dilate 1 cm so it came as a surprise when my Dr. came in at 5:30 pm and told me i was complete and ready to push.  So i started pushing and while i was pushing my dad who was on call at the same hospital showed up, my brother Rob and sister-in-law Brisa and there 9 month old girl Liv showed up too.  Needless to say it was a party! I pushed for a little over an hour and before everyone new it Ruby was crowning and my Dr. was not there.  The nurses were trying to make me wait tell the Dr. showed up but its hard to not push when you feel a bowling ball sized head between your legs so i pushed and the resident on call had to deliver Ruby.  Everything went smoothly and our precious little gem is making funny sleeping faces as I write.
